Lo and Behold, I Have More Crocheted Earrings!

When I was in the middle of renovating my room, I had to transfer this cabinet that had my books and trinkets in it. I also had to remove some stuff before moving it from the old room to the new room to reduce weight for easier lifting.

I picked up one of the small boxes and opened it just to check what was inside. Then I got surprised.

Just the sight of what was inside the small opening was reason enough for my heart to skip a beat :p Lo and behold, I still have those crocheted earrings I made years ago! I thought I had given or sold them!

I guess work got in the way that's why I forgot about them. I have so much! I think I have more or less 20 pairs in this box!

These earrings are smaller than my "Cant Wait For Summer" earrings. After selling out those earrings, I guess I have more to sell now! I will be posting details soon here in my blog and my Facebook page.

Gawd, these things I crocheted before just pop out of nowhere!

The Earrings Are Coming Out Of The Dark

So I recently unearthed some earrings I forgot about for years. Check the "unearthing" here.

And now they are coming out of the dark! Got the earring hooks on them already.

These earrings will be sold at the Made With Love: Valentine's Arts & Crafts Fair this Feb. 14-16.

You can find them at Booth No. 7: the joint booth of Life After Breakfast, Hey Kessy, and Artesanias Divertidas!

All of the earrings measure around 2 inches from side to side. There are only 1-2 pairs available for each design and color. Each pair goes for P200.

They are pretty light on the ears.

Panda Earrings Represent!

A friend asked me to make earrings for his friend. I said ok. But then he said he wanted panda earrings [insert the sound of crickets in the background].

I figured it could be boring if I just crochet a flat surface with white and black yarn to make it look like a panda, so I made a small amigurumi of a panda head.

I hope it somehow looks like a panda. I did my best :p

I didn't want to put eyes anymore. I tried but they looked weird on them. I guess the black and white color already suggests they're pandas (or chubby dogs).

Each head is a bit more than the size of a 5-Peso coin. It has some fiberfill in them for the chubiness. But they're light on the ears.

Blast from the Past: Crocheted Earrings & Accessories 2006

The first time my creations were actually sold in the market was in 2006. My friend Alessa had an idea of selling crocheted accessories through her line, "Accessories by Alessa." We brainstormed with patterns and colors and came up with great pieces. I didn't think I could make money out of a hobby, well, it didn't really cross my mind that people out there would be interested in what I was doing :)

It was definitely a successful run. Thanks as well to Alessa's network in the fashion industry, it got featured in magazines such as Preview, Mega, Yes!, and Girlfriend.

I started working on a new collection under my own line. Watch out for the new pieces in the near future!

Yummy Kit For My Workshop This May!

I started to assemble a sample kit for my 2-Part Beginners' Crochet Workshop on May 4 & 11.

And I must say...it's looking pretty good!

Apart from the awesome yarn you will be getting from Red Heart® and Cannon®, you will be getting a pompom and tassel maker, a set of 12 hooks (see below), and important notions for every crocheter - like scissors and stitch markers (plus others). See that pretty case in the box? That's a special case for all your hooks and notions. Now that should make every crocheter giddy :) See the dangling crocheted earrings on the box? Yep, every participant also gets a special gift from me - a pair of crocheted earrings (well, if I get a guy participant, he can give it as a gift)!

Apart from also getting a set of patterns and crochet guides for beginners, participants also get to choose their own vintage "Stitch by Stitch" magazine. This magazine was published in the 70s and 80s (pretty much vintage, and rare!). Each issue has 1 or 2 crochet patterns plus other patterns in knitting and sewing. What's good about their crochet segment in each issue is that they have visual guides on how certain crochet stitches are made for the featured crochet project.

Motifs Make Me Happy

Hello, hello! It's already July and it's been months since I made a blog entry! I will talk about this hiatus on a different post because projects need to be shared. Right away!

I have been busy decorating a "special place." As some of you might know, I am quite fond of crocheting motifs. I use them mostly to make accessories and home accents. The motif pattern I recently undertook wasn't new to me. I actually made earrings with it, using DMC Pearl Cotton Thread. This time though, I wanted to try it out with bulky yarn, and this is what I got.

I didn't exactly plan to make 7 pieces. My original plan was to use the original pattern as a jump-off point to make a larger piece by making my own pattern. I had several attempts but all of them didn't come out right, so I went back to the same smaller pattern and decided to attach each one as I went along.

Each motif is around 14 inches in diameter. I crocheted them using 2 strands of Gantsilyo Guru Bulky Cashmere Blend in Royal Purple and Grey and with an 11.5mm Susan Bates Crystalites Hook. I tried making a motif with just a strand, but it didn't come out as bulky as I wanted. I used 2 whole cakes and around 20% of another cake for each of the 2 colors (total of 3 cakes per color).

By the way, if you're wondering how I used 2 strands using the last cake (because for the first 2, I just put together the strands from both of them), I just pulled out the inner tip of the cake and combined it with the outer one. It's a good way to conserve yarn (instead of getting 2 cakes), especially when you're just going to use a short length.

Using this yarn for a "rug" is quite a splurge just because the feel is really nice. Projects crocheted or knitted with this yarn are usually scarves/shawls or afghans. I would rather look at it than step on it! This is a good project though if you want a decorative piece on your floor that you want to sit on or you want your kids to play (or lie down) on. It's not the kind of rug you wipe your shoes on (excuse the feet).

Aren't motifs awesome?!?! Try looking at them under a different light and experiment with them using bulky yarn. You can create an entirely new project just by changing the size of your yarn.
